Broughton Bridge open
Broughton bridge, just off
the A66 between Cockermouth and Workington, has been repaired and
is now open (one-way) to traffic (Monday, March

Work to start on footbridges
Cumbria County Council has set aside funds to
pay for repairs to flood-damaged footbridges, starting
with Navvies Bridge in Workington and Memorial Gardens footbridge
(also known as Miller's Bridge) in Cockermouth. Barker's Crossing,
the temporary footbridge built in Workington by the army in the
immediate aftermath of the floods, will remain in place until
Navvies Bridge is open again, thereby ensuring additional
pedestrian access to and from the town centre.

Work begins on new Workington temporary road bridge
Cumbria County Council has named
Rugby-based engineering firm Morgan Est as the contractor to build
the new bridge. Work on site is beginning almost immediately, with
the contractor's temporary offices arriving on site and ground
excavations for the bridge's foundations starting within days.. For

Cumbria flood recovery fund
Cumbria Community Foundation has funds available for
individuals, families and voluntary groups who suffered in the
flooding on 19 November. They are also administering a fund on
behalf of Allerdale Borough Council which offers help with flood
