Corporate Improvement Plan 2008-11
In 2006 we embarked on an exciting process of turning our
vision; “Allerdale, a great place to live, work and
visit” into reality through the development of our first
Corporate Improvement Plan (CIP). In 2007 the CIP was refreshed to
make sure that we remained focused on what was important to
you.
We agreed to refresh the Corporate Improvement
Plan on an annual basis to give an update on what has been achieved
each year and to ensure that the priorities are still relevant to
our communities.
In 2008 we developed our CIP, Our places, our communities into a
three year plan and this was done through a range of discussions
and workshops with partners, elected members, staff and the
community, to ensure that our priorities and actions focus on the
needs and opportunities of our communities.
The three-year Corporate Improvement Plan
seeks to ensure that Allerdale Borough Council is:
- Playing a clear role in the success and
development of West Cumbria and Cumbria
- Meeting our vision of making Allerdale ''a
great place to live, work and visit''
- Leading the way to improve the quality of
life of our people and our communities
- Developing and delivering efficient services,
based on customer need and local priorities
- Delivering value for money for our local
communities
- Becoming and excellent organisation

Corporate Improvement Plan can be downloaded below.

An addendum to the Corporate Improvement
Plan has been published to clarify which wards and parishes in
Allerdale are included in each locality area. The addendum can be

Refreshing the plan 2010
Since the launch of the document there have been a number
emerging issues which has meant that some of the priority outcomes
that were set are now either not achievable or not appropriate. It
has also meant that the Council has less resources to deliver all
of the key projects and activities we said we would deliver. Issues
include:
- Economic recession which was a contributing
factor to the Councils transformation programme which has resulted
in savings of £3.5 million
- Flooding emergencies which happened in
November and still require resources in terms of recovery
- Changing priorities of our communities
The Council recognised the need to re-evaluate
which of the excellence targets we were likely to achieve and which
are now inappropriate for the remainder of the three year plan.
Re-evaluating the Corporate
Improvement Plan
The Councils strategic management team and
portfolio holders with support of service managers were
required to review the content of the Corporate Improvement Plan
with the aim of re-evaluating what is was now achievable and
relevant within the current context. A workshop was organised with
strategic managers, portfolio holders and service managers where
they were asked to review the following:
- Priority outcomes
- Key Performance indicators and targets
- Key projects and activities
- Corporate Health indicators and targets
It was decided that for the remainder of the
plan the Council would retain the overarching six priorities of
- Economy
- Environment
- Healthy and Safe
- Housing
- Inclusive Communities
- Service access and delivery
To ensure decisions were evidenced based
decision makers were provided with a range of information including
performance reports and customer perceptions and priorities from
existing consultation.
On Wednesday 21 April 2010
full Council agreed the changes made. There have been no
changes made to the main body of the Corporate Improvement Plan,
instead revisions have been made to the section called 'The Plan'
which sets out what our priority ouctomes, actions, measures and
targets are. A refreshed version
of this can be dowloaded below.
The Council will continue working
towards achieving these outcomes throughout 2010/11
