New business networking programme announced

As part of its commitment to economic development, Allerdale Borough Council, working with Britain’s Energy Coast, has developed a new business networking programme called Allerdale Business Connections.

Allerdale Business Connections aims to encourage local businesses to develop relationships with each other to share knowledge, resources and new ideas. Speakers from various business disciplines will be invited to come along and share their specialist knowledge with the aim of helping business owners to overcome everyday business issues and become more efficient and competitive.

Councillor Mark Fryer, Allerdale Borough Council’s Executive member with responsibility for economic development, said: “The Allerdale Business Connections programme is one element of the support package for businesses that we have said we will deliver as part of the Council’s Commitment to Local Communities.

“Networking is a valuable use of time for many entrepreneurs and business owners, meeting like-minded individuals that you can work with or learn from in some way. Events like these can lead to future opportunities and potential ways for working together, in terms of help, advice and business and I am delighted that the Council has invested £10,000 in this type of support.”

Shelly Gambles, Business Support Manager for Britain’s Energy Coast, said: “We are delighted to be partnering up with Allerdale Borough Council to offer this free service to businesses within Allerdale. Our aim is to support our local businesses to sustain and grow through the sharing of best practice, resource and experience and encouraging diversification into new markets, helping to create a more diverse and resilient business base.”

The first event is to be held on Thursday 30 August, 6-8pm at The Trout Hotel, Cockermouth and the topic will be ‘The Value of Networking’. The speaker is Catherine Eve of Bowness HR.

The programme is funded by Allerdale Borough Council and Britain’s Energy Coast.
