£5,000 Property Flood Resilience Scheme

Applications for flood resilience grants are now closed, however you may still be eligible for the other sources of funding found on this page.

The following video provides help and guidance on what measures you can put in place to make your home more resilient to flooding.

Free advice centres

Residents and business owners can also visit one of the advice centres set up by the Business Emergency Resilience Group (BERG) which offer free advice and support. The unit in Allerdale is located at Office 3, 1st Floor Barclays Bank, Market Square, Keswick and anyone who has been flooded, from anywhere in the county, is welcome to visit and meet with flood and grant experts who can offer help and advice on all aspects of the grants and complete the form with you there and then.

• The unit is open Monday – Friday, 9am – 6pm
• Call 01900 512139
• Website: http://floodresilienceadvice.com/
• Twitter @fradvice
• Email info@floodresilienceadvice.com

BERG also has a mobile unit which will be visiting communities throughout the area. More details on the locations can be found on their website and will be posted here.

The units have been provided by BERG - part of charity Business In The Community. BERG is a network of businesses and organisations united in a desire to help others affected by crises. BERG’s members mobilise assistance and support to communities and small to medium-sized businesses across the UK to help them prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies such as flooding.

BERG is an initiative of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, Duke of Rothesay.

Further funding

Cumbria Community Foundation (CCF) are offering top-up grants of up to £2,000 if your Property Resilience Grant is successful for householders.

Once an applicant has applied to us for a grant they can then now apply to CCF for a top-up grant of up to £2,000 if their costs exceed £5,000. Please note, unlike the us, CCF are not able to support businesses and so business properties are not eligible for CCF's grants.

They are however, able to support groups of neighbours who want to apply for a combined scheme and may even be able to support some applicants who are ineligible for the grant, but we would need to look at these on a case by case basis. If you have any enquiries of this nature please direct them to me.

Please see the information below in the documents section which also contains an application form.

Cumbria Community Foundation grants for individuals and families

The Cumbria Flood Recovery Fund 2015, which is being run by the Cumbria Community Foundation, will provide financial assistance to help individuals and families who have been affected.

There is help available for individuals and families whose homes have significant structural damage from flooding and for employees who have lost work or income because of storm or flood.

Help for voluntary, sports and community groups

Voluntary and community organisations also play a vital role in supporting communities during times of need and grants will be made available to them also.

Support is available to voluntary and community groups who are providing immediate relief to people and longer term community rebuilding projects. Support will also be provided to flood affected community facilities. Please apply on line at http://www.cumbriafoundation.org/ or call 01900 825760

Funding and advice for businesses which have been flooded

Cumbria Chamber of Trade also has advice and guidance for flooded businesses.

Britain's Energy Coast are offering help with office space for flooded businesses.

£500 funding for properties that have been flooded from the GovernmentFlood grant

This scheme applies If your property was flooded between 3-11 December. Details on the eligibility criteria can be found in the documents section below.

What will I receive?

You will receive £500 if the inside of your property was flooded recently. This includes damage to basements and integrated garages.

Who will get the payment?

The payment will be made to households who have been flooded. In rented accommodation it will be paid to the tenant. If a number of people live in one property, they will be eligible to one payment per house. Those living in park homes and caravans are included, though second homes are not eligible for the payment.

What is the money for?

To help with your recovery costs such as alternative accommodation or repairs.

How will I get the £500?

We are going through lists of properties that we know have been flooded.

  • If we do not have your bank details (ie you do not pay by direct debit) we will write to you and send you an application form. Please ensure you've taken advantage of the mail redirection service offered by Royal Mail so you receive this letter. You can also contact us on 0303 123 1702 and floodgrants@allerdale.gov.uk  . An application form is also at the bottom of this page in the documents section.
  • If you pay for your council tax by direct debit, you will have received this payment automatically - you do not need to do anything.  If you have not received this payment and think you are entitled to it, and you pay by direct debit, please contact us on 0303 123 1702 or floodgrants@allerdale.gov.uk .

Where is the money coming from?

The government is providing local authorities with Community Grants as part of the Communities and Business Recovery Scheme. This will be equivalent to up to £500 per household affected by flooding. It will help with recovery costs such as provision of temporary accommodation. In Cumbria this will mean a fixed payment of £500 for a property that has been flooded.

Any queries on the scheme, please contact us on 0303 123 1702 or floodgrants@allerdale.gov.uk .

Please be advised that the information contained on this page could be subject to change once clarification is received from the Department of Communities and Local Government.  Details of any changes will be given on this page as soon as it is available.
