23/07/2008 - Options for Chief Executive's post
Following the announcement that Chief Executive Gillian Bishop will be leaving the Council at the end of August 2008 to take up a new position of Chief Executive with the Regional Improvement and Efficiency Partnership, Allerdale Borough Council’s Deputy Leader Councillor Margaret Jackson said:
“Permanent recruitment to this post could commence with immediate effect, however due to the summer months, it is not felt that this would be an appropriate time to attract and engage maximum exposure to the vacancy.
“As a result, a more realistic option is to consider permanent recruitment arrangements after the summer months and, therefore, an interim position for a period of around six months will be required. The Council’s Executive is carefully considering the options available for this interim position. These include an existing director taking up the interim position, an external interim chief executive being appointed, shared duties of the chief executive’s role amongst the three existing directors, and securing collaborative working arrangements with a Cumbrian local authority.
“The Executive will make a recommendation about its preferred option for the consideration of full Council at its meeting on 13 August 2008.”
