Children's Play
The Allerdale Play Partnership is pleased to announce that
£211,000 has been awarded from the Big Lottery Fund to support the
four projects identified by the Play Strategy which was developed
in 2007 by Allerdale Borough Council, consultants Halcrow Group
Limited and a wide range of partner organisations who work with
children & young people in play.
The play strategy identified four key
themes:
- Improvement of Fixed Play Opportunities
- Increased Provision of Supervised Play
Activity
- Development of ‘Natural Play’
Opportunities
- Strengthening of Play Partnerships.

The four projects which will be funded
by the Big Lottery award are:
Cockermouth’s Memorial Gardens
- Replacement of existing play equipment and
the provision of new play equipment within a redundant paddling
pool.
Wigton Park
- Replacement of old and dilapidated play
equipment with provision for disabled and less able users.
Braithwaite School and Community Grounds Natural Play
Development Project
- A wildlife area
- An all weather/all ability
path
- A gazebo for outdoor
teaching space and play
- activity Zoned play areas
- Quiet areas for reflection,
contemplation and quiet play activity.
Flimby Recreation Ground Play Area
- The removal of the existing play
facility and the provision of a new large Neighbourhood
Equipped Area for Play (NEAP).
The funding from the Big Lottery will
commence in April 2008 and the four projects will be delivered over
the next three years.
