The Council is committed to a rolling provision
of good quality play facilities, on sites identified as being of
strategic importance. The aim of each equipped play area is to
provide play value with as wide a range of play facilities as
possible, whilst bearing in mind the responsibility for health
& safety, maintenance and inspection costs. You can locate the
nearest playgrounds to your home using the Parks and Playgrounds
layer of the Find my Nearest search on our
mapping pages.
Coun. John Crouch, the Mayor of Allerdale,
officially opened the Camp Road play area in Maryport
recently.
The area, which has been revamped to the tune
of £58,000, is the third of eight strategic play areas within
Allerdale to receive this treatment and follows similar work at
Vulcan Park, Workington, and Bellbrigg Lonning, Cockermouth.
At Camp Road, the money has been spent on
provision of new play equipment, safe surfacing, new pathways, and
so on. Local schoolchildren from the nearby Maryport C of E School
were consulted as to what they wanted to happen on the site and
their views were incorporated in the final design.

In may 2003 Allerdale Borough Council, through
its Playground Strategy completed the fourth strategic play
site at Hunters Drive Seaton. As with previous sites the local
schools had input with the choice of equipment.
The new playground

hosts swings,
multi-games, ball dunk and slide equipment for the benefit of
residents and visitors to the village. This playground caters
for toddler and juniors covering an age range from 4-15years.
The remaining four strategic play areas
are: Ewanrigg Road, Maryport; Harrington Marina, Workington;
Flimby Recreation Ground and Harris Park Cockermouth.
Partner funding has been secured for both
Ewanrigg and Harrington Strategic sites.
