About Planning
Determining applications
The Council has delegated the authority for determining
development proposal to a panel of twenty Councillors known as the
Development Panel. In the same manner the power to determine
certain kinds of proposals has been delegated to officers. The
powers are defined within the Scheme of Delegation in Respect of
Planning and Building Control Matters.
The Development Panel meets once a month, normally at The Wave,
Maryport. The meetings are public meetings; agendas and
minutes are available.
Service Plan
Each year the various Sections of the Authority produce a
Service Plan to inform the corporate process of securing service
improvement, performance management and financial planning.
Planning Service Charter
This document serves to demonstrate the general standard of
service that customers can expect. The service charter is available
to download below.
Meet with Planning and Development
If you wish to meet with planning and development prior to plan
submission, to discuss ongoing applications then please complete
the form below. A planning representative will be available at the
Town Hall, Workington to discuss your proposals. You do not need an
appointment to inspect plans or make a comment, this can be done
online through the Planning Applications
area of the website.
Advice given will be accurate and objective but will be without
prejudice to the formal consideration of any subsequent
application. We can give you information about relevant planning
policies and previous decisions and, where appropriate, our
standards for such matters as car parking. Advice will also be
given on the likely timescale for dealing with the planning
