Maryport town centre is special. It is a Conservation Area whose character should be preserved and enhanced. Special rules apply to houses in Maryport Conservation Area, which mean that any external alterations to chimneys, roofs, walls, windows, doors or means of enclosure, require planning permission.

Now that Maryport town centre is also a Housing Renewal Area there will be many proposals to change the external appearance of houses. This leaflet has been prepared to guide house owners and occupiers when proposals for grants to improve properties are being prepared which require planning permission.
