Local Development Framework (LDF)

The Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 has introduced a new planning system, which requires the council to prepare a Local Development Framework (LDF). The LDF will eventually replace the Allerdale Local Plan. The LDF will cover those areas of Allerdale outside of the Lake District National Park. The documents to be included within the LDF are listed on the left hand side of this page. Clicking on a document link will bring up relevant details including expected completion dates and any other related documents, such as sustainability appraisals. The LDF will be made up by the following documents:

Evidence Base

Proposals contained within the Local Development Framework will have to be backed up with evidence. Evidence will need to be demonstrated to justify the need for any new proposals, but also to assess and compare the impact such proposals will have, allowing planners and other stakeholders to make an informed decision as to which would be most suitable. Please go to the Evidence Base page for more information and access to relevant documents.

Community Involvement

The Local Development Framework puts a heavy emphasis upon engaging the community within the planning process. As a result each document that will make up the new LDF is required to go out to public consultation at a number of stages through out its production. Further details are given in our Statement of Community Involvement or on the page dealing with the relevant document.

Sustainable Development

There is also a requirement for the LDF to address sustainable development concerns. As such, each Local Development Document (With exception of the Statement of Community Involvement, Annual Monitoring Report and the Proposals Map) will be subject to a sustainability appraisal. This appraisal will be used to ascertain whether the LDD is delivering the proper balance between social and economic development and environmental protection. The Sustainability Appraisal documents can be found on each relevant LDD page.

Introducing the Local Development Framework: Video

The Regeneration team has produced a video with the aim of explaining the new planning system. The video is designed to be of use to all persons who may have an interest in the planning system, including local councillors, town and parish councils, developers, the general public and anybody else who may wish to learn more about the LDF. Hard copies are available on DVD upon request.
