Cumbria Biodiversity Evidence Base
In 2008 the Cumbria Biological Data Network completed a
comprehensive map of potential locations and reported sightings of
key and protected species across Cumbria. This data will form a key
part of the Local Development Framework Evidence Base, and will
help inform planners and developers when it comes to locating new
development and to protecting Cumbria's unique ecology.
A series of maps is available from the Biological Data team
based at Tullie House in Carlisle. Up to date information regarding
the potential locations of key protected species can be found on
their Virtual
Fauna of Lakeland website. Species covered include:
- Great Crested Newt
- Natterjack Toad
- Small Blue Butterfly
- Red Squirrel
- Otter
- Hen Harrier
