Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA)
In accordance with Planning Policy Statement 3: Housing (PPS3),
the Council must be able to identify enough land suitable for
housing development to cover the entire plan period of the the
emerging Local Development Framework (LDF), starting from the
proposed adoption date.
We currently plan to have the LDF adopted by 2012, our SHLAA
will therefore cover the period of 2012-2027. The interim period
until that date will be covered by the five year supply identified
in Meeting the Five Year Housing Land
Supply.
The SHLAA will attempt to establish a realistic and
deliverable capacity for new housing within the main towns and
villages of the borough in order to inform choices regarding
housing location in both the Core
Strategy and the Site Allocations
documents. We anticipate that the document will be ready in the
Spring. It will be available for download below.
A joint methodoly for the SHLAA was produced
by Copeland
and Allerdale Councils in 2008. Details regarding the Copeland
SHLAA can be found here.
The two councils will produce their own final SHLAAs.
Please note that the SHLAA is simply an assessment of
settlement capacity for housing. It does NOT allocate
land for development. If a site is included within the SHLAA this
does not guarantee that it will be carried forward into the
adopted development plan.
We are currently consulting upon the final list of SHLAA sites.
The SHLAA is available to download below along with a list of sites
that have been discarded in this version of the study. Please
ensure that any comments you may have reach us by 4:30pm on
Friday 5 March 2010.
