Other Planning Policy Documents

In order to facilitate the production of the Local Development Framework, the council will be putting together a number of minor documents that will serve as reference and guidance to forthcoming planning policy. These documents will be included below as they become available.

Urban Capacity Study

In order to assist the development and planning processes, Allerdale Borough Council has decided that it is necessary to undertake an Urban Capacity Study of its main settlements.  This will give an accurate picture of the potential for housing sites and capacity within the urban areas of Allerdale and will provide baseline information for the forthcoming Local Development Framework. Please note however that this study is not prescriptive, and applications for developments on sites documented therein may not necessarily be granted planning permission, nor does it mean that applications on sites not included within the study will not be considered. We will welcome any suggestions you may have for new possible sites not included within this study. Location Plans for all the sites included in this study are available on request.

Strategic Flood Risk Assessment

The Council has instructed consultants to prepare a Strategic Flood Risk Assessment (SFRA) for Allerdale, outside the Lake District National Park. This will be available in late Summer 2006 and will inform the policies and site allocations within the LDF.

Green Space Audit and Local Needs Assessment

In accordance with requirements in Planning Policy Guidance Notes 17 (PPG17), the Council is required to assess the amount and quality/status of open and green space, regardless of ownership, within the district's towns and villages. We are also required to find out what local communities perceive the need for green space within their local areas to be. We will be employing consultants to undertake this work for us, and hope to have something published by June 2007. The information provided by this audit and assessment will go towards the evidence base for the Local Development Framework.
