Making the Most of your Paper/Card Bin.
Please make use of your paper bin by recycling your junk mail
and Easter/Birthday/Christmas cards and wrapping paper
(non-foil type only). Cardboard can also be put into your
paper/card bin for recycling. This includes cereal packets,
egg boxes, broken up cardboard boxes etc.
Getting the maximum use out of your Garden
bin.
Your garden bin can be used to recycle your grass, shrubs,
weeds, small branches, holly, mistletoe and your real Christmas
tree! Please make sure you do not bag your garden waste before
putting it in the bin. Unfortunately bagged garden
waste cannot be collected for composting.
Do not forget the purple bag!
If you have the purple
bag recycling collection scheme, remember to make use of it for
all those extra bottles and cans. If you do not have the purple bag
scheme, the communal recycling banks are a great way of disposing
of your recyclables and leaving more space in your bin for
non-recyclable waste.
Glass
In the UK at Christmas we consume over 5 million jars
of mincemeat, 12 million jars of pickles, and over 6 million
jars of cranberry sauce! - please recycle your glass by taking it
to your nearest recycling site. Glass can be recycled
again and again without losing its quality. This means that
glass does not biodegrade and therefore just sits in landfill sites
forever!
Can the can
You can now use the can banks located at the 'bring sites' to recycle all your food and drink
tins (including pet food cans) and empty aerosol cans! It
takes less energy to recycling cans than it does to mine for new
metal. There is only enough Aluminium left for another
70 years unless new sources are found.
