Schools and recycling

Primary Schools in Allerdale are leading the way in recycling!

As part of Cumbria Waste Partnership, Allerdale Borough Council have launched an initiative to increase recycling in schools.  The Recycling 4 Schools initiative is offered to all schools within Cumbria.  Pupils can earn rewards for themselves and their school by collecting pledges from family members and neighbours that they will use the Council's facilities to recycle as much of their waste as possible.
To find out more go to http://www.recycle4schools.net/.
Following an invitation from Schools within Allerdale, the Waste Minimisation Officer visits to talk to the children about recycling. Some schools have requested their own recycling bins for glass, cans, paper, and compost to encourage the children to adopt recycling into their everyday life and in turn encourage residents to use the facilities at the school for their recycling.
Children produce posters/models focussing on the subject and what they have learnt and a selection of these can be viewed on this site. The models produced by children from Victoria Junior School in Workington were all from materials that could be recycled.
