Animal nuisance
In general, people are allowed to keep animals, as long as they
do not cause a nuisance or a health hazard to other people and
premises around them.
Legislation exists to prevent nuisance and health hazards from
being caused by keeping animals.
If you live in a housing association property, you are also
bound by a contract of tenancy (part of which is a tenancy
agreement), which prevents you from causing nuisance or health
hazards by keeping animals.
Such things as noise, smells or waste caused by keeping animals
could be a problem and if reported, will be investigated. Further
information on Cats, Owls and Bats is
available in this section. We also have a Dog
Issues section.
