Equality and diversity

Positive about disabled people symbolAllerdale Borough Council believes in equality of opportunity and freedom from discrimination for all its current and potential employees and strives to be a leader in the provision of this basic right.

The Council is an accredited member of the Two Ticks Disability Symbol, this is awarded to the Council by the Jobcentre Plus in recognition of it’s commitment to meet five criteria regarding the employment, retention, training and career development of disabled employees.

The Council is positive about employing people with disabilities and will take all reasonable steps to meet any special requirements individuals invited to interview may have.

The council undertakes this responsibility by promoting equality of opportunity through our employment policies, practices and service delivery arrangements.

We seek to eliminate all forms of discrimination which contravene our Equal Opportunities commitment.

We respect cultural difference and promote an environment of cultural awareness, valuing diversity and using people’s talents to the full.

We accept the right of each employee and customer to be treated fairly and monitor recruitment activity to ensure our policies and practices support this.
