This is a great opportunity to join a forward thinking local authority serving one of the most diverse housing markets in Britain. We have the most acute affordability problems outside of London in the Lake District National Park alongside the fragile market restructuring being tackled on the west coast of Cumbria by the Pathfinder-style Furness and West Cumbria Housing Market Renewal Partnership.
Allerdale’s new Housing Options Service brings together our existing homelessness capacity along temporary accommodation provision and signposting to support services. It will help us to help people make the most of the housing options on offer in Allerdale. We are now looking for a dedicated person to help us make a success of our new Housing Options Service.
The Housing Options Officer will…
…deliver homelessness services to clients who are homeless or threatened with homelessness.
…interview customers seeking help due to actual or possible homelessness, make accommodation and decisions, needs assessments, recommendations and referrals as appropriate.
…secure temporary accommodation, as appropriate to the needs of the Council’s clients working in line with national and local policy.
…Specialize in an area of homelessness, either the prevention of homelessness/
domestic violence or young people.

Senior Housing Technician

You will provide technical advice, information and support on building and construction related issues to other Officers, Clients and Contractors as required and inspect properties to determine the extent of public nuisance which may exist. You will prepare schedules of works and notices as required to enable properties and those responsible to comply with legislative and regulatory requirements relating to their maintenance and management and prepare schemes for group repairs to property prior to tenders being invited.
You will have practical experience of building construction principles and practice, the ability to draw up schedules of building works. You will be capable of reading and understand legislation and regulations relating to housing maintenance and management and be able to meet and negotiate with customers and explain and discuss housing matters. You must also have an interest in housing as an essential social and economic system.
