Arts Development in Allerdale

Support, Advice, Grant Aid, Project Management

Coastline - Aerial ViewThe Arts Development programme at Allerdale Borough Council exists to promote creativity by offering help, advice, support and in some cases grant aid. This support is available to individuals, groups and organisations who are, or aspire to be, actively involved in the arts and work with professional artists. The service actively encourages, develops and funds the development of all art forms, such as dance, theatre, visual arts, music, creative writing and new media. The service has traditionally targeted the development of art forms which are under-represented in the borough. Recently this has meant investment in dance, visual arts in the public realm and new media.

The objectives of the Arts Development programme can be summarised as follows:
  • To develop new audiences for the arts
  • To increase access to the arts
  • To encourage involvement in new art form areas
  • To establish new partnerships in arts practise

The Arts Development Officers are available to assist individuals, community groups and organisations to develop arts programmes and activities involving professional artists. The team can advise on funding opportunities, good practice, creative programming, developing community arts projects and all aspects of running and setting up an arts project.

Allerdale Borough Council Arts Development Officers would like to thank Mike Cambray of Learning Partnerships for the wonderful support he provided through the mentoring programme run by Business in the Arts:North West.
