Northside New Media Project
Northside New
Media was an arts project set up for a group of local
residents from the Northside estate, Workington, to learn how
to create artwork using digital technology. Artist David Titley
worked with the group for eighteen months, and created a
DIY artists’ book to showcase the residents' work. The book
was launched on Thursday 25 October 2005. During the
launch evening, participants received certificates for
completing a twelve week Open College course.
The Northside New Media project was funded by Allerdale Borough
Council's Arts Development Unit, Arts Council of England, Learning
and Skills Council, Cumbria County Council and Neighbourhood
Renewal Fund.
The project encouraged people to discover new skills,
develop confidence and go on to achieve amazing things, and was
particularly successful due to the commitment of the participants.
Project managers looked to extend the programme to other
communities in Allerdale.
