Workington Community Radio
WCR.FM
The
Workington Community Radio project was a follow on from similar
projects held in Carlisle and Whitehaven, funded through a number
of grants and donations.
WCR.FM launched on 1st February 2002 and lasted for 28 days.
Featuring programmes produced and presented by people from
Workington and the surrounding area, creating opportunities for
people to be trained in broadcasting and radio production
skills.
In addition to training people to broadcast on the radio,
WCR.FM also ran accredited training programmes in
conjunction with Lakes College, (formerly West Cumbria College),
providing those who took part with a National Open College Network
(NOCN) qualification. There were a number of units available,
covering a wide spectrum of radio related subjects which proved
useful while WCR.FM was on the air.
The studios where based in the refurbished Stoneleigh
Training and Development Centre on Park End Road, with the
signal reaching a surrounding ten mile area.
