Pathways to Art

Pathways to Art is a project aimed at people on a working age benefit who are interested in taking part in creative workshops. Pathways to Art has worked with over 100 adults in West Cumbria on projects such as photography, theatre and creative writing, low-relief wood carving, crafts such as felt-making and pyrography.Pathways to Art gallery - harbour photograph

Pathways to Art workshops run on a regular basis in response to community demand. Typically the workshops are held in community spaces and are attended by groups of six to twenty individuals. The workshops are run in blocks of ten sessions and are free of charge.

If you are interested in the project contact your local Job Centre or the arts development services of Allerdale and Copeland Borough Council to book a place. It is not essential that participants attend every session within the block of ten. You can come by yourself or bring a friend or relative.

Read an interview with Mandy, a playmaking participant, which features in the Summer 08 edition of Allerdale Outlook magazine.

Photography with Rob Frazer

Rob Frazer has been a professional photgrapher for 30 years and has worked on commissions all over the world. The majority of his work is now carried out on digital camera gear, which has allowed him to shoot, review and download his images within minutes of pressing the button. However, he still loves shooting on old-fashioned film, processing the films and printing on conventional papers.

For this block of work Rob will be showing how to work with handmade pinhole camera and produce beautiful images. Participants will be making their own cameras, processing and printing the films, and end up with a piece of art of their own making.

Venue: The Beacon, Whitehaven.

Dates:  14 April - 16 June

If you are interested in attending please come along, contact Anne Timpson, Arts Development Officer, Copeland Borough Council on: 01946 593041/ 07872811143 or anne.timpson@copeland.gov.uk
