CA15 are Maryport's community arts organisation, which was set
up in February 2002. They run a number of projects and events aimed
at promoting the arts and participation in the arts. Examples
of CA15's work include the creation of murals, regular art
workshops for children, film projects with young people, painting
classes and training in the use of new media for adults, and trips
to places such as Glasgow and Edinburgh. CA15 have also
supported a residency for a professional artist, and local artists

The Crazy Arts Club is based at Harrington Youth Club,
Workington and runs regular art club sessions for children
aged 8 and over on Saturday mornings. The club provides
opportunities for children to use quality art materials, and access
a wide range of skills which may not be available to them at home.

FRED is Cumbria's county-wide 'art invasion' of temporary art
projects inspired by their locations. Featuring the work of
numerous contemporary artists, FRED has taken place every
October since 2004. Last year's FRED event also included
guided walks, workshops, seminars and topical discussion. Visit the

MAP is an independent artist-led organisation based in North
Cumbria. They offer support for visual arts practice in
the region, and are committed to the development of high quality
art projects to increase critical awareness of and access to
contemporary arts practice in Cumbria. MAP devise, manage and
deliver projects to commission for the public and private sectors
and also generate their own initiatives. They
also contract experienced, freelance artists to work with
them, maintain an artists' database, facilitate artists'
events, residencies and workshops. Past projects include a
regeneration initiative focused on the marina site of the small
community of Harrington on the edge of Workington in West Cumbria.
They were commissioned by Harrington Marina Regeneration Action
Group to devise, manage and deliver a project which involves the
local community in practical artwork, generates enthusiasm for
public artworks at the marina site, and helps state the case for
investment in the marina. They are also delivering work at
Beckstone Primary School, Workington, for

This painting group for adults is a leisure class based at
Harrington Youth Club. The club is open to all, and has tutor
support. Classes are held every Thursday 10am - 12noon, and
cost £4 per session.

Solway Arts Society is a voluntary charity which has been promoting
professional arts for the public in Allerdale since 1978. The
Society's aim is to make the arts socially, economically and
geographically accessible to the rural communities within the
Solway Plain area of Allerdale. Their programme includes art and
craft exhibitions including Silloth Art Exhibition,
displayed in participating shop windows around the town. The
range of other events ranges from puppet shows, theatre
performances and poetry readings to big band, classical,
jazz and folk concerts. Today Solway Arts
Society organises around 70 events throughout the year in
village halls, churches and schools and in the market towns of
Wigton, Aspatria, Silloth and Cockermouth.
