Cultural Strategy for Allerdale
Cultural activities are important to us all. They
form a significant part of our everyday lives. Whether it be
walking in the fells, picnicking by the lake, visiting the theatre,
supporting the local rugby team, playing badminton on a wet
Saturday afternoon, taking the dog for a walk in the park, going to
bingo, volunteering on a carnival committee, clubbing on a Friday
night, watching the television, cycling with the family along the
coast road, having a drink with friends, reading a book and much
more!
We all take part in such activities and the quality of our lives
is much dependent upon the positive experiences that we draw from
them. The Government has recognised the value of culture in making
a real difference to the social, economic and environmental well
being of local communities.
We all have a role to play in this!
This Cultural Strategy shows how the local authority working
with other organisations and the public, commercial and voluntary
sectors and with the support of the people of Allerdale can build
on the good work already taking place across the Borough to
regenerate communities and enrich people's lives through
culture.
Throughout the development of this strategy the focus has always
been on the people of Allerdale and their needs and aspirations for
the future. These have been translated into a series of actions
that will give guidance and direction to future cultural provision
and in doing so help make Allerdale a great place to live, work and
visit.
