Take part
As part of the London 2012 Olympic legacy there are many ways in
which you can take part in National Sports Programmes and
support the Olympic Games.
Sport Makers
Sport Makers is a new programme to make it easy for you to help
make sport happen near you - from helping out with local sports
clubs to setting up sport in your local community like fun runs or
five-a-side football.
To take the first steps to become a sporting hero, visit the
sportmakers website.
Sport Relief Mile
Sport Relief 2012 is on its way from Friday 23 to Sunday 25
March 2012. With over a million people expected to join in the
Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile, there’s no better way to take part
in the UK’s biggest year of sport and help to change lives too.

Gold Challenge
Gold Challenge is the charity challenge where you take on
Olympic and Paralympic Sports to raise money for charity. Everyone
aged 7 upwards can take part in Gold Challenge as an individual or
as part of a team. Participants choose from the challenges
available and fundraise money for one of Gold Challenge’s 125
charities.
Gold Challenge works with the British Olympic Association, Sport
England, sportscotland, Sport Wales, ParalympicsGB and the National
Governing Bodies of the Olympic and Paralympic sports. It is part
of ‘Places People Play’ – the official mass participation legacy
programme for London 2012.
Our very own Sports Development Officer Rebecca Stamper has
signed up to the 2012km Gold challenge, so over the next 5 months
her and her husband are aiming to walk, cycle or run 2012km
each.

website.
Sportivate
Thousands of teenagers and young adults across Cumbria are to
benefit from a new sports programme that aims to fulfil the legacy
promise made by Seb Coe in Singapore in 2005 to 'inspire young
people to choose sport'.
Sportivate will give 14- to 25-year-olds the chance to receive
six to eight weeks of coaching in a sport of their choice. Launched
by Sport England and Active Cumbria today, the £32 million National
Lottery-funded project will help those who aren't currently playing
sport in their own time to get out and give sport a go.
As part of the Places People Play mass participation legacy
programme, Sportivate will see 300,000 teenagers and young adults
across England completing sports courses over four years.
Thanks to £194,000 of Lottery investment in Cumbria, at least
2,430 local people will be able to take part in activities.
Workington Leisure Centre has got involved with the Sportivate
programme and during 2012 you can have a go at Boxing, fitness and
circuit training and Dodgeball!
To find out more please visit the Sportivate
section of the ActiveCumbria webpage.
Local Leaders
The Local Leader programme is an opportunity for
people in communities across the UK to celebrate the Olympic Games
in their local areas. A Local Leader is someone who gets stuff
done. They organise, they pull people together. They have a passion
for the Games and want to celebrate them.
Local Leaders will get friends, family and
neighbours ready to celebrate. From Gardening for the Games to
planning a Sports Quiz or an Opening Night In. When they sign up
they will get hints and tips to help them plan their celebrations,
plus get access to exclusive toolkits as we get closer to the start
of the Games.
We want the whole of the UK to get involved and
celebrate the Games together.
It is the Local Leaders who will make this
happen.
To find out more please visit the official
London
2012 Olympics website.
Community Games
The Community Games programme provides a great opportunity for
you to bring your community together to take part in sporting and
cultural activities inspired by, and in celebration of the London
2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Your community group can get up
to £250 to help with an event, which could be linked up with a
carnival, a street party or a jubilee event.
