Cockermouth Leisure Centre improvements
Allerdale Borough Council in partnership with Carlisle
Leisure Limited has carried out a number of
improvements at the Allerdale leisure facilities. These
improvements are funded by business rates relief which
Carlisle Leisure Limited is able to achieve due to having
charitable trust status.
The use of these funds are jointly agreed by the partners
and to date have enabled a number of improvements to be made which
improve the quality of the facilities and increase the range of
activities available to users.
Fitness suite
Improvements have been made to the fitness suite,
including:
- 4 new treadmills installed with ipod connectivity
- 2 E spinning bikes (with computers/instructor video)
- Full entertainment system for the CV room
- Upgraded core workout and free weights area
Dry side facility improvements
A new scheme is being worked up and costed for the improvement
of three remaining areas in the older, 'dry side' part of the
leisure centre. This includes:
- The refurbishment of the spinning studio, including air
conditioning

pipework and replaster/repaint the walls
- The refurbishment of the changing rooms, including toilets,
showers and changing spaces
These improvements will be funded through NNDR business rate
savings achieved by Carlisle Leisure Limited and used as a 'Joint
Fund' for service and facility improvements.
Energy Efficiency
Carlisle Leisure Limited has recently carried out a thernal
survey of the leisure centre to identify areas where heat is lost
and has installed additional insulation to improve energy
efficiency.
