Sports development

Allerdale Borough Council provides opportunities for people to
participate in sport and recreation through its parks and open
spaces, sports and leisure centres, sports pitches, recreation
grounds and public halls. The Sports Development
Team contributes towards improving the health and wellbeing of
local communities through a range of physical activity and sports
initiatives.
We aim to provide advice and support to local community clubs
and groups with their development. This may include coach education
courses, volunteering opportunities and funding information.
In order to deliver the key performance targets the Council has
advanced its enabling role by developing community links, networks
and systems in order to extend sport and recreation opportunities
throughout Allerdale.
Some of our recent projects include:
- We co-ordinated, supported and promoted over 20
coach education courses in partnership with other Local Authorities
and National Governing Bodies. Over 200 people attended and
benefitted from the subsidised rates that we offer on our
courses.
- We supported one club through the National Club Mark
Process, with the accreditation awarded.
- We co-ordinated a free summer holiday programme were over
700 young people accessed sport and recreation activities in their
local parks and open spaces.
