Walking Football

Have you given walking football a try yet? Walking football is the new popular activity and we are launching a new session in Wigton. For males 50 and over only, participants will learn the rules of the game and get the chance to try this slower paced but still as competitive, game. Fantastic fun!

  • Dates: Summer sessions were such a success we are looking at continuing the sessions in Wigton and Workington - Watch this space

  • Venue: Wigton Rugby Club, Astro Turf.

  • Pay as you play, just turn up and pay the coach.

Cockermouth Leisure Centre

U3A University of the 3rd Age - Need to be members of the U3A.

Wednesday 1pm - 4pm:  Fitness / exercise class with qualified instructor, badminton & table tennis.
Friday afternoon - Indoor bowls, contact U3A for details.
Discounted gym & swim sessions for members of the U3A.

Prime Time Club

Monday & Friday 9am - 12noon.  Badminton. Friday 9am - 10am free swimming funded jointly by Age Concern and CLL.
This session is always available but is only free certain weeks of the year in term time, call the Centre for info.
50+ Swim. Monday 2.30-3.30pm & Wednesday 3-4pm.
Adult swimming lessons.
The Leisure Access Card is available to senior citizens.

Workington Leisure Centre & Pools

Prime time

Swimming, Aerobics, Badminton. Swimming is free at certain times. 50+. Monday & Wednesday mornings.

  • Adults only swimming in normal pool programme.
  • Masters swimming for 40+.
  • The Leisure Access Card is available to senior citizens.

The Wave Centre

Wednesday 7.30pm – 9pm, £4.50 per person. The Ballroom Dancing class at The Wave Centre is ideal for those who have done a few turns in their time as well as those who think they have two left feet. 

Our experienced instructors teach a different dance every fortnight so you can drop into the session at anytime.  Come along and you’ll soon find out that you can keep fit, have fun and learn something new.

Expert Patients Programme

If you have a long term health condition that rules your life and you would like to take back control, then the Experts Patients programme can help.

Trained volunteers who have a long term illness themselves are running courses that can help you to:

  • Deal with pain and extreme tiredness
  • Use relaxation techniques and exercise
  • Cope with feelings of depression
  • Understand your symptoms and how your condition affects you
  • Plan for the future
  • Eat healthily
  • Communicate with family, friends and health professionals
