Keswick Leisure Pool improvements
Allerdale Borough Council in partnership with Carlisle
Leisure Limited is carrying out a number of
improvements at the Allerdale leisure facilities. These
improvements are funded by business rates relief which
Carlisle Leisure Limited are able to achieve due to having
charitable trust status.
The use of these
funds are jointly agreed by the partners and to date have
enabled a number of improvements to be made which improve the
quality of the facilities and increase the range of activities
available to users.
The entrance foyer
was refurbished in 2005 and altered to provide improved
customer access and space.
New flooring, lighting and
decoration has made the area more welcoming to customers while a
push button door ensures ease of access for wheel chair
users.
The colour schemes and
materials used here are gradually being introduced at the
three leisure facilities Carlisle Leisure operate on behalf of the
Council.
Energy efficiency
A new Building Management System (BMS)
has recently been installed at the leisure pool to enable the
heating and ventilation system to be controlled more efficiently
than the original system which was 20 years old. Linked to a more
efficient boiler the new system is already reducing consumption of
electricity and gas, while maintaining a comfortable environment
for customers.
Changing room refurbishment
Work is complete on
the refurbishment of the leisure pool changing rooms
which were 20 years old. The original changing room is
pictured to the right.
The refurbishment work entailed a total strip

- 5 parent and child changing cubicles, each accommodating 2

- A new disabled changing facility incorporating toilet and
shower facilities.
*All family and parent & child cubicles will contain fold
down baby change tables.
126 new lockers incorporating:
- 30 family compartments, each providing for 3 persons
- 20 parent and child compartments, each providing for 2
people
- 16 adult compartments
- 52 general swimmer compartments
- 2 equaliser compartments, each providing for 1 person
- 4 disabled assistance compartments, each providing for 1

In addition the cubicles and vanity units in
the male and female toilets were replaced with the same high
quality fixtures and fittings used in the changing rooms.
