More people, more active, more
often
The recent £1 million improvement of
Cockermouth Leisure Centre has had a huge impact on the number of
people using the facility.
The improvment work created a much
larger entrance foyer, a new activity studio, a new meeting room
and extended the fitness suite and car park.
Following the improvements the leisure
centre has been inundated with people signing up for memberships
and new activity classes. The health and fitness programme has
grown from eight classes per week to almost 30 due to the
additional space available.
Following the opening of the new
facilities in March 2008 usage has increased dramatically with 9%
more users in April and 15% more in May when compared against the
previous year. In more detail usage has increased in the following
areas.

Investment in facilities and
services

and Workington Leisure Centre) have received a significant amount
of investment since the leisure partnership between Allerdale
Borough Council and Carlisle Leisure Limited commenced on the 1st
April 2004.
A report on the investment provided
through the leisure partnership Joint Fund is
available to view at the bottom of the page.
Rural Transport Scheme
During the May half term holiday
Workington Leisure Centre repeated this popular scheme which

holiday activity camp. The supervised bus picks up from the

Workington) and brings the children back after a day at the
activity camp.
During the May half term holiday 61
children used the camp over four days with 24 or 39% using the free
transport service. The scheme will be repeated again during the
summer holidays.

New Residents Scheme for Keswick
Leisure Pool & Fitness Centre
Residents in the whole of the
Borough of Allerdale can take advantage of off peak prices at
Keswick Leisure Pool all year round thanks to the new
Residents Leisure Access Card.
Carlisle Leisure Limited,
the not for profit organisation who took on the management of
the centre in April 2004 under a 15 year agreement with Allerdale
Borough Council, has devised the new scheme after listening to the
views of local residents who felt that the rise in prices over the
peak season made the facility less accessible to them.
The Residents scheme will run along
the same lines as the Leisure Access Card operated by CLL, with an
annual fee of just £4 which will then give access to all of the
included activities on offer at Keswick at the reduced price.
To take advantage of the Residents
Leisure Access Card offer, residents are urged to contact or visit
their nearest Centre for an application form. To process the
application all that is needed is proof of residency via a Council
Tax bill, 2 passport sized photos, the £4 fee and a completed
application form.
