Allstar Passport logoAllstar Passport Project

Building on the success of Passport to Activity and On the Move Passport, Cumbria Outdoors has launched the new Allstar Passport Project.

This new scheme will run for four years and recruits young people aged 11 - 12 and their families from the most deprived wards in Allerdale and provides a range of free and discounted activities including:

  • Free swims
  • 10p swims
  • Free racquet sports
  • Junior circuits

Deborah Hunter, Project Manager for Cumbria Outdoors says.

"Working in partnership with Allerdale Borough Council has contributed to the success of the above projects, therefore when identifying district councils to work with on the project Allerdale was a first choice.

As the aim of previous projects was to remove the barriers to allow access to sport and physical activity, our main area of partnership working has been, and continues to be, with Allerdale Borough Council’s Sport and Recreation Unit.  This project will aim to provide an extensive range of opportunities to improve the physical and mental wellbeing of those young people and families most at risk of being excluded from ‘healthier’ lifestyles.  The Allstar objectives incorporate mental/emotional health, physical activity and healthy eating."

Deborah adds.

"Last summer alone, 666 benefited from free swimming and leisure centre activities.  Recognising that working in partner organisation, either with match funding in cash or kind, adds value through working to combined objectives, moreover adding value for participants. With the launch of our new project we would like to build on this relationship and extend partnership opportunities to other departments within Allerdale, to increase the number of opportunities to achieve common objectives."

Allerdale Borough Council is supporting the Allstar Passport by providing a range of free and discounted sport and leisure activities at Cockermouth Leisure Centre, Keswick Leisure Pool and Workington Leisure Centre which are operated by its partner Carlisle Leisure Limited.

Each participant in the project receives a free Leisure Access Card which gives a 50% discount on most sport and leisure activities provided at the leisure facilities operated by Carlisle Leisure Limited in both Allerdale and Carlisle. Participants will also benefit from a full range of outdoor activity days and residential activities.

Activities are also provided at Netherhall Community Sports Centre and Wigton Baths.
