Cumbria Youth Games

Cumbria Youth Games 2008


The Cumbria Youth Games was held on the 5th of July in Carlisle, with events taking place at a number of venues, including Sheepmount, St. Aidens school and the Sands Centre. After a hard day of very tense competition the final results were in. Allerdale had an extremely good result and were tied in third place with Eden but after a very strong performance Carlisle came first and won the Lonsdale Cup!

Allerdale's representatives at this years games were:
Year 3 & 4 Hockey - ASHFIELD JUNIOR SCHOOL, WORKINGTON
Year 5 & below mini Tennis - SILLOTH PRIMARY SCHOOL
Year 6 & below tag Rugby Union - KIRKBRIDE PRIMARY SCHOOL, WIGTON
Year 6 & below Kwik Cricket - EAGLESFIELD PRIMARY SCHOOL, COCKERMOUTH
Year 6 & below netball -BECKSTONE PRIMARY SCHOOL
Year 6 & below Athletics - SEATON JUNIOR SCHOOL
Year 6 & Below Orienteering - mixed - highest scorers in the school league
Year 6 Girls Football- SILLOTH PRIMARY SCHOOL
Year 6 Boys Football- SEATON JUNIOR SCHOOL
Under 12's mixed Basketball- MIXED TEAM

Well Done to all Allerdale's competitors who did an amazing job and got us a great and well deserved result. Tournaments and festivals for next years games will be starting in September so it's never to early to start training!

The Youth Games 2006

Allerdale Clinch it for a 3rd Year!!

 

The annual Cumbria Youth Games (CYG) is the largest multi-sport participation event for young people in Cumbria with each of the 6 districts taking part.

This year the Cumbria Youth Games were held in Whitehaven on the 8th July with an even wider range of  sports involved and participants range from as young as 6 years old up to 18 years of age. For the 3rd year running Allerdale's sporting stars did it again and we came home with the Lonsdale Trophy. A great day was had by all even though the weather was not fantastic!

This year's events were as follows:

Orienteering                    Athletics

Boccia                             Football

Kwik Cricket                   Tennis

Basketball                       Rugby Union

Netball

Badminton                      Hockey

Tournaments for the selection of teams took place around the Borough from January, kicking off with the Badminton Festival which was new to the Games this year. 

The following teams were winners in Allerdale and so went to the games to represent the Borough.

  • Badminton - Keswick A team won the tournament so they will be heading to the Youth Games along with 2 girls and 2 boys from Nelson Thomlinson School who came a close second in the tournament!
  • Netball - Beckstone Primary School
  • Mixed Tag Rugby - Thomlinson Junior School
  • Girls Tag Rugby - Netherhall Specialist Sports College
  • Hockey - Thomlinson Junior School
  • Tennis - Silloth School
  • Cricket - Thomlinson Junior School
  • Girls football - Nelson Thomlinson School and Netherhall Specialist Sports College
  • Boys Basketball - participants from a range of schools
  • Girls Basketball - participants from a range of schools
  • Orienteering - participants from a range of schools
  • Athletics - participants from a range of schools
  • Inclusive Athletics - Stainburn School
  • Boccia - Stainburn School
There's only 51 weeks until the next games so time to get training!

Cumbria Youth Games 2005

Allerdale brings home the Trophy for the second year running!

 In 2005 the Cumbria Youth Games was hosted in Barrow on Saturday 2nd July.  There were 14 sports that took place this year which included orienteering, kwick cricket, cycling, boccia and girls football. In the months leading up to the games district tournaments and festivals were held in which the winning teams went forward to represent Allerdale at the Games.
This year Allerdale were the winners of the Lonsdale Trophy for the second year running!
The teams that represented Allerdale this year were:
  • Keswick School - Girls Rugby Union
  • Stainburn School - Boccia
  • Netherhall School - Cycling and Girls and Boys Basketball
  • Thomlinson Junior School - Mixed Rugby Union, Netball and Hockey
  • Nelson Thomlinson School - Girls Football
  • Mixed School teams were put in for - orienteering, kwick cricket

Allerdale Hosts the 2004 Cumbria Youth Games

Cumbria Youth Games 2004The 2004 Games were held for the 1st time in Allerdale at Moorclose Leisure Centre, Cockermouth School and Netherhall School, Specialist Sports College, Maryport on 26th June.   Approximately 900 young people participated in 11 different competitive sports, those being:                                                       

  • Hockey
  • Rugby Union
  • Rugby League
  • Tennis
  • Kwick Cricket
  • Netball
  • Cycling
  • Boccia
  • Basketball
  • Girls Football
  • Athletics
Sport England fund the Cumbria
Cumbria Youth Games 2004
Youth Games with additional contributions from Cumbria County Council and the six local authorities in Cumbria.   Due to Allerdale hosting this years Games, local sponsorship was secured from The Cumberland Building Society, Tesco, Graves (Cumberland) Ltd, Allerdale Borough Council, Allerdale Leisure Ltd, Subway, Lakeland Willow Spring Water, and the Media Partner was the West Cumberland Times and Star.                                                                              

                                 

Allerdale - Overall Winners!Cumbria Youth Games 2004

The overall winners of the Cumbria Youth Games was Allerdale.  Cumbria Playing Fields Association donated the Lonsdale Trophy to the Cumbria Youth Games which was accepted by 2 members of the Allerdale Boccia team on behalf of Allerdale.
Well done to all who represented Allerdale in the Cumbria Youth Games.
