Allerdale Disability Association Information Service
The Information Service began in 1990 because of the demand from
the public. There was nowhere in the area for people with
disabilities to receive information. What started in a small room
and one phone has developed over the years into a service with
trained volunteers who use a national and local disability
information database for enquiries whose numbers go up dramatically
year by year.
We can be contacted in several ways by clients who wish to
receive information; by visit, phone, letter, E-mail and mini-com.
If we can't answer your enquiry we will put you in touch with the
relevant organisation who can. If any one wishes us to help them
fill in any Disability Benefit forms an appointment can be made to
allocate sufficient time without interruptions.
The service we provide is completely confidential and free, our
volunteers receive on going training to keep as up to date on
disability issues as possible.
Allerdale Disability Association is a member of RADAR and was awarded its CLS legal
services quality mark in June 2001. We are also founder members of
The Cumbria Disability Network.
