Disabled Facilities Grant
Adaptations to a person's property to enable them to
remain at home
Allerdale Borough Council provides Disabled
Facilities Grants to help cover the cost of housing
adaptations to enable people to stay living in their own
home.
Disabled Facilities Grants are mandatory for
certain essential adaptations to give better freedom of movement
into and around the home and to have access to essential
facilities. The disabled facilities grant is means tested for
adults. However, adaptations for children are not.
Most of the normal adaptations such as installing ramps,
stair lifts and through floor lifts, or the provision of level
access shower facilities will qualify for mandatory grant
assistance. Some items for the welfare and employment of a disabled
person may however be classed as discretionary works and will not
normally be grant supported by Allerdale Borough
Council. The maximum award is £30,000.00.
To apply for a Disabled Facilities Grant, you must first be
assessed by an
Occupational
Therapist from Cumbria County Council. If it is found that an
adaptation to your home is necessary, your details will be passed
to Allerdale Borough Council, who will assess your eligibility for
a disabled facilities grant.
