Workington
The hub is complete!
The Workington town centre Public Art celebration day was held
on Saturday 5 July 2008. Local groups performed at the
Hub and in the former Civvi Street (women's) shop in
Workington Town Centre while street performers entertained the
crowds and an exhibition in the former Civvi Street (men's) shop
celebrated the success of the Art Council funded Workington
Temporary Art Programme.

Allerdale Borough Council and Workington Regeneration have
commissioned a series of new urban spaces and public art as part of
the redevelopment of Workington town centre. This has been made
possible by £2.74m of investment from the Northwest Regional
Development Agency (NWDA) to improve the public realm of Workington
town centre. The art projects complement Workington's new retail
development designed by CDA architects for S. Harrison Developments
of Malton. The Arts Council awarded an additional £30,000 to
support a temporary programme of public art events and
projects. Information about current and forthcoming projects and
events can be found on this website.
Professional artists have been commissioned to produce new work for
permanent display around Workington town centre. Public art and
public realm consultants, Working pArts were commissioned to
develop and implement both the temporary and permanent programmes,
to ensure design quality and engage local people with the changing
landscape of the town.
