Concessionary travel - bus and rail pass

Bus passThe Borrowdale bus (NoWcard)

Cumbria County Council is responsible for administering the National Concessionary Travel Scheme. The scheme provides free off peak travel on scheduled bus services for people of pensionable age and people with disabilities.

Qualifying residents receive a bus pass (a NoWcard) entitling them to free national bus travel between 9.30am and 11pm Monday to Friday and all day on Bank Holidays and weekends.

Disabled 24/7 NoWcard

To help disabled people access work, training or day care services during peak travel times, Cumbria County Council is also able to provide free local bus travel to holders of a Disabled 24/7 NoWcard (external link).

Please note, Allerdale Borough Council offices are unable to accept bus pass applications or answer related enquiries. Please contact Cumbria County Council (external link).

Senior railcard

A one-year senior railcard can be purchased at a reduced price of £24 (usually £28) at Allerdale Borough Council Customer Service Centres. This offer is only available while stocks last, after which time, you can buy a rail card directly National Rail.

Senior railcard holders save a third on standard and first class rail travel across Britain.

Senior railcards are available to anyone aged 60 years or over. You can purchase a senior railcard even if you already have a NoWcard for bus travel.
