Car Parking - Our Advice
Help us to help you
When using a Pay & Display car park place ensure you buy a
ticket that is sufficient for your length of stay - Display this
clearly on the dashboard of the vehicle, in such a manner that the
amount paid, date and expiry time are clearly visible from the
outside of the vehicle.
You will need to have change for the ticket machines - these
take any current British coin from £2.00 to £0.05p (they do not
accept copper coins). The option to pay by
phone is available at Lakeside, Bell Close, Central and Otley
Road car parks in Keswick. Full details are shown at the pay
and display machines.
- Always lock valuables away and out of
sight.
- Always lock your vehicle and ensure all windows
are closed.
- Do not leave a child or any animal in a locked
vehicle. This may result in prosecution, even if you leave a
window open.
- Do not display aged/out of date tickets from
previous visits or from any other car park. Tickets issued on one
car park are NOT VALID on another.
- Do not leave notes on your windscreen saying how
long you will be gone when you will return - this is an open
invitation to thieves.
- Do not park anywhere on a Public Car Park except
wholly and only in a clearly marked bay. If there
is insufficient room for you to park in a bay (perhaps because of
the way others have parked) then please go and find another bay or
another car park in the same town. The Council will not accept a
fault by another driver to excuse 'other motorists' penalties.
Help yourself
Do not infringe the basic requirements on any car park which
are:-
(i) To park properly and wholly within a bay and to 'Pay and
Display' as required.
(ii) Unless you 'own' a Reserved Bay do not park in these at
all.
(iii) If you are a Blue Badge holder do not park on a
roadway, access, exit or any place other than a 'disabled' or a
normal 'public' bay. Please ensure that you display your badge of
authority and a clock-card showing your time of arrival
clearly.
Weather
In inclement weather take care, both in your vehicle and on foot
on any car park.
In winter conditions do not 'assume' that a car park has been
gritted. Please drive, dress and walk about a car park in
accordance with the prevailing conditions.
Although the Council will necessarily grit/salt its car parks in
winter - occasions may arise when the available resources are being
used elsewhere at the time of your arrival or departure, as
Allerdale has parking places in seven (7) Towns in a 400 square
mile area of Lakeland and the Solway Coast.
