On and off street parking enforcement regulations
The Civil Parking Regulations, which are part of the
Traffic Management Act 2004, have changed parking enforcement in
England and Wales, providing motorists with a more consistent
service across the country.
Motorists should be aware that under the regulations there
are two levels of penalty charge (fines) depending on the severity
of contravention. The higher tariff for more serious contraventions
is £70, while the lower tariff for less serious contraventions is
£50. Both tariffs will be discounted by 50 per cent if paid within
14 days.
In certain circumstances, there is no longer a need for a
Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) to be placed on a vehicle, or handed to
a driver, in order for it to be properly served, as the rules allow
the PCN to be sent by post to the registered keeper of the
vehicle.
Allerdale Borough Council in conjunction with its
neighbouring authorities has agreed a standard set of penalty
charge notice cancellation policies.
