On and off street parking enforcement regulations
The new Civil Parking Regulations, which are part of the Traffic
Management Act 2004, are set to change parking enforcement in
England and Wales, providing motorists with a consistent service
across the country.
Motorists should be aware that under the new regulations
there will be two levels of penalty charge (fines) depending on the
severity of contravention. The higher tariff for more serious
contraventions is £70, while the lower tariff for less serious
contraventions is £50. Both tariffs will be discounted by 50 per
cent if paid within 14 days, as is the case presently.
In certain circumstances, there will no longer be a need for a
Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) to be placed on a vehicle, or handed to
a driver, in order for it to be properly served, as the new rules
allow the PCN to be sent by post to the registered keeper of the
vehicle.
