The Borrowdale busBus services

The County Council provides information on bus services in Cumbria. The Council also offers subsidies to operators to provide transport services which would otherwise not run.

New bus route over the Honister Pass

Allerdale Borough Council is pleased to have supported the setting up of the 77R service from Cockermouth to Keswick via the Honister Pass. The service which travels through Lorton, Buttermere and Seatoller runs every day throughout the summer holidays and was set up in a partnership between Reays and Cockermouth Chamber of Trade. You can also hitch your bike (and those of four friends) onto the back - excellent for heading down the hills from Honister without the slog up!). A full timetable can be found below.

For all other services the County Council list of bus timetables is available.

Rail services

Cumbria is served by a number of key rail routes that are part of the national rail network. The Cumbria Coast line connects towns in south and west Cumbria to the West Coast main line at Carlisle and Lancaster.  This scenic route has views across the Irish Sea and the western Lake District. The route is operated by Northern Rail.
The West Coast main line offers frequent services to/from major conurbations such as Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham and London (Euston). These trains are operated by Virgin Trains.
