About podcasts
A podcast is a collection of video / audio programmes
or episodes. They enable you to automatically receive any newly
released episodes in a series which you can then view or listen to
on your PC whenever you like.
Podcasts make it easy to keep up to date with an audio
or video series as all you need to do is subscribe. The podcast
will then regularly check and make the latest episodes
available for you to access on your PC through a media playing
application such as Apple iTunes.
Podcast episodes are usually released in MP3 format which means
that you can also transfer them to a portable MP3 player.
How to subscribe to a podcast
When a web page has a podcast available on a page, it will
display a link or button that you can click on to subscribe to
the podcast. As you can choose different applications to subscribe
with, e.g Apple iTunes or Microsoft Zune, there may be multiple
subscribe buttons with each able to send the subscription to a
different application.
There are many free applications which make podcast subscription
and playing easy. iTunes is one of the most popular and can be
downloaded from www.apple.com/itunes/download/.
You can also subscribe to a podcast as an RSS feed. This will
display the episodes of any podcasts you subscribe to in
a list including a link to the audio/video file for each
episode which you can then download. A page which has a podcast to
subscribe to may display an RSS podcast link which you can click on
to subscribe in this way. Further information about RSS can be

Where a podcast is available on our website, you will be able to
subscribe to it in the following ways:
- Click the 'Subscribe with iTunes' link, which will import the
podcast directly to iTunes if it is installed on your PC.
- Click the 'Subscribe with RSS' link which will display the
podcast as a list in an RSS reader allowing you to click on the
episode you want to download.
