Armed Forces Covenant

Allerdale Borough Council is committed to giving fair support to members of the Armed Forces, veterans and their families and has supported the Armed Forces Covenant since 2013. The Leader, Councillor Marion Fitzgerald, re-signed the Covenant on behalf of the Council on June 24, 2019.

A long term commitment

In 2013, we signed the Allerdale Armed Forces Community Covenant alongside the Cumbria Armed Forces Covenant.

This demonstrates a clear commitment to seek out ways in which we can assist the whole armed forces community and particularly those who will be leaving active service to make the transition to civilian life.

Armed Forces Covenant Bronze Award

The purpose of the covenants is to encourage support for the Armed Forces community working and living in Allerdale and to recognise and remember the sacrifices made by members of the Armed Forces. This includes those currently in service, ex-service personnel and their families.

The support we offer

We offer practical support in the following ways:

Allerdale mayor Hilary Harrington (left) and council leader Marion Fitzgerald with the Covenant

Defence Employer Recognition Scheme

The Defence Employer Recognition Scheme encompasses awards for employer organisations that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to defence and the armed forces community, and align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant. Allerdale Borough Council currently holds the Bronze Award.

Armed Forces champion

Allerdale Borough Council's armed forces champion is Councillor Peter Little. You can get details about the champion's role from the Armed Forces Champion role profile .

The Armed Forces champion support officer can be contacted on 01900 702544.

Covid-19 outbreak

No Homeless Veterans is committed to both recognising those who are doing an excellent job in meeting the Military Covenant and reducing veterans’ homelessness. However, in light of the Covid-19 crisis, there is a greater necessity than ever to provide additional support. A range of information and support can be found at www.nohomelessveterans.org.uk
