Allerdale Borough Council is once again offering children the opportunity to enjoy summer swimming for just 10p.

Children aged 16 and under will be able to take advantage of the offer at the swimming pools in Workington, Cockermouth and Wigton Baths.

In addition for those interested gaining confidence in open water swimming, sessions are also taking place in Keswick’s Derwent Water as part of a half-day holiday programme of outdoor activities.

The scheme starts in the week beginning Monday 25 July and will continue throughout the school summer holidays.

Councillor Jim Lister, Allerdale Borough Council’s Executive member with responsibility for sports development, said: “I’m delighted to see the return swimming activities over the summer months. The 10p swims sessions have particularly proved incredibly popular over the years. One of the Council’s priorities is to improve the health of wellbeing of our communities and the scheme makes this possible for many children across Allerdale.”

The 10p swimming sessions are only available to Allerdale residents.

Normal pool adult to child supervision ratios apply at the swim sessions and entry may be denied if the maximum number of bathers are reached. For opening times and other details including eligibility criteria, please contact the pool direct or look on their websites. For Cockermouth and Workington pool and the open water sessions go to www.better.org.uk or download the Better app. For Wigton Baths go to www.wigtonbaths.co.uk

The Derwent Water swimming sessions are available every day from Monday 15 August to Friday 19 August from 9am to 1pm and from Monday 22 August to Friday 26 August from 9am to 1pm. There are 15 places available for each day and children should be aged between 7 and 14 years old.

The cost of these sessions is £15.00 per day or is free to those in receipt of free school meals. More info on these sessions can be found on the Better website.
