Residents of Allerdale are being encouraged to sign up for the latest round of the Big Allerdale Switch over the Christmas period, to find out if they could save money on their energy bills in the New Year.

Allerdale Borough Council has once again partnered with iChoosr, the UK’s leading expert in collective energy switching, to deliver bespoke and highly competitive tariffs for those on dual fuel, separate supplier contracts or pre-payment meters.

Householders can register their interest online for free, and the results will be announced following the next auction which takes place on Tuesday 13 February. During the most recent auction held in October this year, 80% of those who signed up could benefit from the scheme, with an average saving of £185.

It’s really simple to sign up and at no point in the process are residents under any obligation to actually switch energy providers if they decide to change their minds. To join the scheme, visit www.allerdale.gov.uk/warmhomes and follow the links.

Councillor Carni McCarron-Holmes, Executive Member for Housing, Health and Wellbeing, said: “We are incredibly proud to run this popular scheme once again, which has offered some significant savings to residents in Allerdale. The Council’s priority is to tackle inequality, and we understand that purse strings are often very tight at this time of year, so we want to make it easier for local people to save money. The more people who register, the higher the savings, so I would encourage everyone to sign up even if you’ve done so before.”

The scheme is part of the Big Community Switch, which is operated by iChoosr, an independent company with experience in collective switching schemes. It works by setting up a reverse auction and inviting energy suppliers to offer their cheapest deals for dual fuel, separate supplier contracts or pre-payment meters. The deadline to register is Monday 12 February.
