A new competition giving people the chance to plan and potentially win their ‘perfect day’ in a beautiful part of Cumbria – once Covid-19 restrictions are lifted - has been launched.

The district of Allerdale is home to a large part of the stunning Lake District, the scenic Solway Coast as well as adrenaline-fueled locations such as Whinlatter forest and Honister Slate Mine. But it doesn’t end there – the area offers fantastic shopping trips in thriving market towns, cultural experiences in galleries and theatres and a host of taste-tingling eateries and drinking spots.

And the team at Visit Allerdale has partnered up Fluid Productions, Borrowdale Gates Hotel, Honister and Keswick Brewing Co., to give one lucky person and a guest the chance to win their perfect day out in the area simply by telling them exactly what that day would consist of.

The coronavirus has hit the tourism industry hard and although people can’t enjoy an overnight trip to the area at the moment, the Visit Allerdale team wanted to remind people about the amazing landscapes and attractions on offer and get people thinking about what they would like to do when restrictions ease further and businesses fully reopen.

To enter go to https://visitallerdale.co.uk/my-perfect-day-in-allerdale-competition/ and tell the team, which is part of Allerdale Borough Council, about your perfect day in a maximum of 500 words via the online form. The deadline for entries is midnight on August 16, 2020.

The main prize will see the winners get to experience their ideal day in Allerdale for free alongside a family member or friend. The day will be filmed by professionals from Fluid Productions and a short video posted on www.visitallerdale.co.uk to inspire others and showcase what the area has to offer visitors. As a perfect finish to their perfect day, the winner will spend the night at the luxurious Borrowdale Gates Hotel and wake up to a fantastic breakfast.

Three runners-up will win tours of the newly-refurbished Keswick Brewery (beer included), with a further three winning tickets to one of the great adventure-attractions available at Honister Slate Mine for themselves and a family member or friend. Prizes will only be redeemable once Government guidelines permit and all of the sponsoring attractions are fully open for business.

The competition entries that are judged to best showcase what Allerdale has to offer as a visitor destination will be added to www.visitallerdale.co.uk to inspire others.

John Cook, Allerdale’s tourism portfolio holder, said:

“The Allerdale district really does have it all - the Lakes, the Solway Coast, culture, art, adventure – the list is endless. We know how much visitors love to come here and we're gearing up to fully welcome them back with open arms when Government guidelines allow.

“With the tourism industry in Cumbria preparing to bounce back we want people to have one eye on what they’re going to do when they do make their next visit. We want people to be inspired by different itineraries and things to do, so we’re asking for help in pulling together the perfect day in Allerdale. I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with.”
