Residents are being invited to attend community clean-ups across Allerdale ahead of visits from Cumbria in Bloom judges.

Judges from the prestigious competition are set to inspect locations across the county with several communities in Allerdale among those hoping to impress.

Allerdale Borough Council has been asked to support community volunteer-led clean-ups next week in Seaton, Maryport and Aspatria alongside the relevant parish councils and Bloom groups.

Allerdale will be providing the volunteers with the necessary equipment to carry out the clean-up and will dispose of any rubbish or waste material collected. Allerdale's cleansing team will also be supporting the Cumbria in Bloom efforts of those communities by carrying out works on the morning of the judging.

The first clean-up will take place in Maryport on Tuesday (25 June) from 10am. People are asked to meet at Her Citi.

On Thursday (June 27) the Seaton clean-up will take place at 10am with volunteers asked to meet outside the main shops.

Finally, volunteers will turn out in Aspatria on July 5, also at 10am. People should meet at the Local Links building.

Parish councils are providing free refreshments to those taking part.

Allerdale Borough Council is committed to supporting bloom efforts across the district and help communities look their best for the competition and all year round.

Mark Jenkinson, deputy leader and portfolio holder for economic growth, said: “The hard work of volunteers in our community means our towns and villages look wonderful all year around.

“But the Cumbria in Bloom competition is wonderful way of gaining countywide recognition for our communities and it's great that Allerdale Borough Council can help support these community clean-ups.

“I would urge anybody who is able to go along and offer some time to also support them."

Cumbria in Bloom judging takes place in Maryport on July 3, Seaton on July 4 and Aspatria on July 9.
