Allerdale Borough Council's building control team were informed of masonry falling off a building near the town's Co-Op store on 1 August 2018. A survey carried out on the building showed part of the building to be structurally unsafe and a danger to the public. 

The Council's building control officers notified Connect, who manage the road on behalf of the Highways Agency, of the danger who decided to close the road.  

Our contractors are on site carrying out the necessary work to make the building safe and ensure no more masonry will fall from it. They are working as quickly as possible to limit the disruption caused by the road closure. However, the safety of the public is our main priority. 

The road closure on Curzon Street is from the Station Street junction, to the entrance to the Co-Op store. Pedestrian access remains on this section of road and all businesses remain open. There is a diversion for vehicles on Mealpot Road. 

Vehicles can still access Station Street from Curzon Street, the Mill Street Car Park, and Senhouse Street. The Co-Op, Lidl and Spar/BP Garage can also all be accessed by vehicles from the Mealpot Road junction on Curzon Street.

The Council apologises for any inconvenience caused, however the safety of the public is paramount in these circumstances.
