The call comes after incidents such as littering and dangerous parking in the Lake District and other areas last weekend.  

The council's community services team have therefore been working with their contractor Tivoli to ensure there are more bins available for visitors, so there is no excuse for leaving litter behind. The team is placing more bins in key areas such as Loweswater, Buttermere, Crummock and Allonby, and these and other bins in places like the Borrowdale Valley and Harrington, will now be emptied more often. 

Tony Markley, Executive member with responsibility for waste and street cleaning services, said: "People are obviously looking to get out into the countryside and coast more with the easing of the lockdown. However, we're asking people - both locals and from outside Allerdale - to act responsibly when doing so. Please use the bins provided, and where these are not available, take your litter home with you - and remember to adhere to other social distancing guidelines. We're committed to a cleaner and greener Allerdale, and everyone can help us achieve this and keep our open spaces, fells, lakes and coastline looking fantastic."
