Residents of Allerdale have another opportunity to reduce their household energy bills with the return of the popular ‘Big Allerdale Switch’ scheme.

Allerdale Borough Council has once again partnered with iChoosr, the UK’s leading expert in collective energy switching, and together will deliver bespoke and highly competitive tariffs for those on dual fuel, separate supplier contracts or pre-payment meters.

Householders can register their interest online for free, and the results will be announced following the next auction which takes place on Tuesday 9 October. During the most recent auction held in June this year, householders in the borough saved an average of £173.

It’s really simple to sign up and at no point in the process are residents under any obligation to actually switch energy providers if they decide to change their minds. To join the scheme, visit www.allerdale.gov.uk/warmhomes and follow the links.

Councillor Carni McCarron-Holmes, Executive Member for Housing, Health and Wellbeing, said: “Many people have seen some fantastic savings from the Big Allerdale Switch, which they would not have been able to access without signing up. I am delighted that the initiative has made a welcome return, as it contributes towards the Council’s priority of tackling inequality and fuel poverty. We run the scheme throughout the year to reach all residents whose contracts are up for renewal at different times, so everyone can benefit from the savings that may be on offer. Anyone can register, but I would particularly encourage those who are currently on a standard tariff to sign up as they may not be getting the best deal.”

The scheme is part of the Big Community Switch, which is operated by iChoosr, an independent company with experience in collective switching schemes. It works by setting up a reverse auction and inviting energy suppliers to offer their cheapest deals for dual fuel, separate supplier contracts or pre-payment meters. The deadline to register is Monday 8 October.
