Foodies and families are in for another fabulous day out when Taste Cumbria comes to Wigton for the very first time.

The event, branded Taste of Wigton, will go beyond just food and drink and also highlight all the businesses and heritage this pretty town has to offer. It takes place throughout Saturday, 23 October 2021.

There will be a Producers’ Market and fairground rides on Water Street Car Park, which will also host a stage showcasing local bands and entertainers. Elsewhere in town will be street theatre, storytelling in a dedicated tipi, a heritage trail quiz, a Find Wigton Ted treasure hunt, and a children’s activity village in the Market Hall.

The John Peel Theatre will hold an open morning from 10.30am-12.30pm with dance and theatre workshops, and an art auction from 2pm. The venue will also be hosting a film night in the evening. Elsewhere in town, the Fountain Gallery in King Street will have an exhibition from town artist Brian Campbell.

Councillor Mike Johnson, the leader of Allerdale Borough council, said:

“Taste Cumbria is going from strength to strength, which is exactly how it should be as we help businesses recover from such a difficult time. And, though boosting the economy is very much part of our remit, these events are about so much more than that.

“They’re about bringing communities together, in a good way, and showcasing all that Allerdale has to offer.

“From the first Taste Cumbria in Maryport in August, to the flagship event that’s coming up in Cockermouth during the last week of September, plus this festival in Wigton in October, then ending the year with Taste Cumbria Christmas back in Cockermouth, I hope this is just the start of bigger and better things to come.”

The event is organised by Allerdale Borough Council with the support of Cumbria County Council, Wigton Town Council, North Allerdale Development Trust and Free 4 All community group.

Any businesses who would like a stall in the Producers’ Market can click here or email ellie.jones@allerdale.gov.uk for details.

Taste Cumbria Cockermouth takes place on 25 and 26 September in Cockermouth, Taste of Wigton is 23 October, then Taste Cumbria Christmas is in Cockermouth on 11 and 12 December 2021.
