Work has started on repairing the river wall at Barepot in Workington.

Allerdale Borough Council’s contractor, Ashcrofts are on site this morning removing masonry and concrete, with the consent of the Environment Agency, from the river and the loose fill material that shields the existing wall from sight. It is thought that the dub wall is still intact and the wall that collapsed was part of a siding.

This initial work will be complete by tomorrow [11 July]. Once opened up our structural engineers Bingham Yates can draw up a detail for making good the points where the siding meets the dub wall.

Part of the retaining wall originally collapsed last November.
